How To Get A Free Ringtone

Posted in : Free Phones and Ring Tones

(added few years ago!)

Mobile phone ringtones have become a large industry for cell phone providers. Ringtones alone account for a vast majority of the optional profits companies receive, simply because they are so popular with consumers. But getting one’s hand on free ringtones will keep their bank accounts running high, and their mobile phones just as jamming.

Oddly enough, some mobile phone companies are so strict that they won’t even allow third party content on client cell phones. North American citizens will recognize U.S. Cellular as one of the major proponents of this rule.

Although they claim it is in the best interest of the customer, most say that they actually just want all the profits of mobile phone ringtone downloads for themselves.

Connectivity is what cell phones are all about- and this fact also helps give mobile phone users a way to get free ringtones even under tight watch from the mobile phone provider.

Technologies such as Bluetooth allow mobile phones to connect wirelessly and share content. It just so happens that ringtones can be traded this way, meaning friends can share ringtones and content for no charge at all.

Copyright infringement is a major topic in obtaining ringtones. Bands and artists don’t like not receiving royalties, but their record labels are even more enraged they aren’t earning a commission. Some websites give away free ringtones simply because the country in which hosts the website and creator doesn’t have strict copyright laws. Keep in mind, however, downloading them can still get one in trouble if their own country’s laws are more strict.

Ringtones are sometimes frustrating to obtain, since it’s hard to find a specific part of a song that appeals to one’s personal tastes.

If a little extra customization is wanted, or even if one wants to stay within their legal rights, making a ringtone of one’s personal music library can be done with computer software. Ringtones need to be a certain length and in a certain format in some conditions- something computer software can handle automatically!

Be warned, however, that many “free ringtones” are actually part of a payment plan. Commercials that advertise free ringtones will have footnotes that claim that a plan will need to be purchased for the free ringtone gift. This is a dastardly way of tricking consumers into money, but in the defense of such means of selling ringtones, the consumer should have paid their attention to the “fine print.”

Final Thoughts-Free ringtones aren’t a myth- they just take a little bit of work to obtain. Even if one’s service provider won’t allow them to have free ringtones, making use of technology to get around such facts is quite easy.

Just be sure to check with one’s local laws to be sure any actions taken are not in violation of a copyright infringement law or breech of contract.
