Betting shop services recently found out that TST and GLI released the GLI-19, outlining the establishment of efficient regulations in online gambling.
This week, online gaming regulation has again been in the spotlight after leading firms revealed the terms of the first global guidelines of the industry. Technical Systems Testing (TST) and Gaming Laboratories International (GLI) have released the GLI-19, which outlines suggestions for establishing and maintaining online betting shop services which are safe.
The much anticipated GLI-19 is coming following a year of consultation and testing with major software operators and developers. Gamers everywhere, including many that have a betting site, are hopeful that the publication will be establishing a regulatory standard which would make a safe playing environment for all those who are concerned.
While commenting on the GLI-19’s arrival, James Maida, who is the president and CEO of GLI, said that the release has been marked as an “important day” for the entire gaming community, including betting shop services. He said that the guidelines will “assist new and emerging markets in developing the proper technical controls and regulations to facilitate the markets.”
He then explained that the guidelines have been divided into two sections, and addressed both operator needs and supplier requirements. He mentioned that the separation was suggested by an “expert team of regulators, suppliers and operators”, including representatives coming from very important places such as Alderney, the Isle of Man and the United Kingdom. He then added that the guidelines would be playing a very important role in helping to “streamline the industry”.
In the meantime, experts in the industry have also suggested that the GLI-19 could be forming the basis of the Green Paper of the European Commission. The review, which concerns harmonization of regulations all across the EU, is expected to be published later this year.
