The bank will give away a limited number of dollar bills each day beginning different times, starting Tuesday and running through Saturday. A schedule of the free sample giveway times can be found here:

On Saturday, the bank will draw from among the serial numbers on those dollars at 2 p.m. during "Family Fun Day" at the branch. The winning serial number will be posted in the branch lobby at 486 Silas Deane Highway, and the winner has one week to claim the $1,000. The winner must present the dollar bill to claim the prize.

Free Health Insurance For Kids

Posted in : Health Freebies

(added a month ago!)

Free Health Insurance For KidsFree health insurance for kids might seem like one of those deals that are too good to be true but this is no hoax. Most private health insurance funds in Australia charge the same premiums for families with children as they do for couples without children which effectively means you can get free private health insurance for your kids.

While this might make a few couples without kids a little cranky at the thought of subsidising health insurance for someone else’s children, it means that families with kids are in a much better position to afford private health cover without having to breaking the bank.

Pennywise parents are always on the lookout for child-friendly discounts which is why offers such as “kids stay and eat for free” deals are so popular during school holidays. Some health funds have decided to take their child-friendly offers even further by waiving the hospital excess if your child is admitted to hospital. There are also offers for no-gap dental services at participating dental clinics.

So you ask, is there anything in the fine print you should know about? Well, the technical mumbo-jumbo defines a dependent child as “an unmarried person under the age of 18 years”. Individual health funds can however extend that age limit for dependent children up to age 25 providing that the child is still a full-time student and remains unmarried. If you’re a couple thinking about having your first child, you should also be aware that a 12-month waiting period usually has to be served before benefits can be claimed on behalf of the child so it’s very important to modify your health insurance cover before you start trying to conceive.

Samsung Galaxy users get free games for the holidays

Posted in : Free Games

(added a month ago!)

Some 700,000 new Android devices are activated every day, up 200,000 since June. The astounding stat was revealed by Android chief Andy Rubin on his Google+ page, offering a quarterly glimpse of consumer’s love for Android devices. The figure doesn’t include resold devices, and considers only those activated with carriers, so the number could actually be higher. And while there’s few other details on the breakdown of that 700,000 figure, we can guess that Samsung, the top Android manufacturer in the US, consists of a good chunk of newly activated Android devices.

Samsung Galaxy users get free games for the holidays

It’s good news for Samsung, which has seen significant success since launching the Galaxy line of Android handsets. Samsung’s even gotten into the holiday spirit, giving out free games to owners of many Galaxy smartphone devices. In a promo called Get Best Games for Free, you can download a number of top games to your Galaxy device from Samsung Apps, including Riptide GP, Samurai II: Vengeance and Sprinkle. The promo began Dec. 13 and runs a full two months, so you have plenty of time to take advantage of Samsung’s holiday cheer.

Sony’s tablet-console love connection

Sony is also committed to the Android gaming community with a firmware update for the Tablet S, allowing users to play games on the system with the PS3’s DualShock 3 wireless controllers. The update is the latest in a string of improvements from Sony, currently in the process of unifying its game experience across mobile and console devices. You’ll recall that Sony recently bought out its mobile joint venture partner Ericsson, a move that centralizes device and service efforts, including the Xperia PLAY platform for a rapid mobile roll-out.

Older gamers spend most cash on mobile games

As more game networks head to Android, more opportunities to make money from mobile gaming crop up. And you wouldn’t believe who’s spending the most money on virtual goods: your parents. Seventy percent of players 45 and older spent money on virtual goods compared to less than 10 percent of gamers aged 18-25, and 22 percent of the most active gaming group, aged 25-35. Interestingly enough, older gamers also spend the least amount of time playing games (23.6 million collective minutes versus 25-35 year-olds’ 67.9 million). These findings come from MocoSpace’s game network, surveying nearly 500,000 of its reported 22 million members. MocoSpace didn’t offer any guesses as to why older gamers are spending more money in less time, but I figure they have more disposable income than their younger counterparts, and less time to waste circumventing in-game purchasing prompts.

Movement against free formula samples puts more stress on new moms

Posted in : Free Samples

(added a month ago!)

I APPLAUD Joanna Weiss’s Dec. 6 op-ed column “R.I.’s bottle ban.’’ Thank you for supporting all of the mothers out there who cannot or choose not to breast-feed for whatever reason. We are just as worthy of support as mothers who choose to breast-feed their babies. The “ban the bag’’ movement - where hospitals no longer include a sample-sized can of infant formula in its “pile of freebies’’ to new mothers - denies new mothers important educational materials and resources. It potentially risks the health of their infants, and does nothing to address the real barriers to increasing breast-feeding rates.

Movement against free formula samples puts more stress on new moms

I hope Massachusetts hospitals will support all of the mothers who deliver babies in our Commonwealth, and will not follow Rhode Island’s disturbing action. Depending on the circumstances, many mothers both breast-feed and use infant formula at some point during their babies’ first year of life, and they overwhelmingly report that infant formula samples play little or no role in their decisions to breast-feed or not.

Ultimately, it is a mother’s decision how to feed her child, and she should be provided nonjudgmental, unbiased care, support, and resources. New mothers should not endure any stress caused by defending their choice of how to feed their babies.Hospitals shouldn’t have a hand in product marketing

RE “R.I.’s bottle ban’’ by Joanna Weiss (Op-ed, Dec. 6): We salute Rhode Island for becoming the first state to “Ban the Bags.’’ This public health decision is not dictated by the whim of crazed advocates bent on making new mothers feel guilty. It reflects two decades of medical evidence for optimal health outcomes.

Hospitals should not be involved in facilitating marketing of commercial products to their patients. Behind the cute and seemingly harmless diaper bag lies a sophisticated marketing campaign, not to protect women from guilt, but to sell more formula.

We feel for every mother out there who has experienced trouble with breast-feeding. Please hear that the problem is not you; the problem is the system and the culture in which we live. The work of the maternity hospital is to support the healthiest feeding practice for new infants, which is breast-feeding. To do this we need to keep mothers and babies together, ensure that staff are well educated in lactation medicine, and say no to the formula marketers and all their freebies. From our perspective, eliminating the bags is one step in our long journey to be able to provide better care for every mother and baby who wish to breast-feed.

Hopefully, Massachusetts will be the next bag-free state. Forty-two hospitals, including the one in which we work, have chosen to promote health rather than formula company profits. We have seven sites to go.

The writers are in the department of pediatrics at Boston University School of Medicine and on staff at Boston Medical Center. Formula companies’ freebies undermine breast-feeding

I HAVE always enjoyed Joanna Weiss’s work in the Globe, but I was surprised at the short-sightedness of her Dec. 6 op-ed “R.I.’s bottle ban.’’ Formula company freebies hurt all mothers, no matter how they choose to feed their infants.

While these so-called gifts supply only enough formula for a week at most, the bags encourage families to purchase the brand-name formula advertised, instead of cheaper or generic alternatives.

Moreover, the scientific evidence is clear that these bags undermine breast-feeding. Because the only way to sell more formula is to sell less breast-feeding, the companies know that having hospitals give out their bags is one of their most successful marketing strategies. Most mothers do not even meet their own breast-feeding goals, according to data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The formula freebies are part of the problem.

Breast-feeding is not just an issue about parenting choices. The longer a woman breast-feeds, the lower her risk of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Hospitals have no business marketing products that interfere with public health. Hospitals should market health, and nothing else.

Free Christmas Bubbles Edition Game for the Holidays

Posted in : Free Games

(added few months ago!)

Karmic apps has made a holiday port of their popular Bubbles Burst game this year. The game is called Christmas Bubbles and essentially just adds some fun snowflakes to the gameplay. Nothing crazy but a good time waster for the holidays. Don let us know that we have never mentioned Bubbles Burst so I thought it would be a good chance to introduce both. The game is a classic bubble matching game though I wish it had some more difficulty levels. You can download both variants free in App World:
